U.S. Navy Warns Soviet-Sized Russian Navy Will Return In 5 Years

U.S. Navy Warns Soviet-Sized Russian Navy Will Return In 5 Years
To defend against our own cruise missiles, Russia also seeks a laser-like "high-energy weapon with antisatellite and cruise missile defense capability." And "electro-dynamic gun systems are being developed that use electrical energy."
Meanwhile, China too is expanding its number of submarines and advanced guided-missile warships, as the U.S. Navy reported in April.

Does anyone imagine that, even under a Republican president, with the massive welfare state that America must now sustain, the public will agree to the kind of Reaganesque military revitalization required to oppose the new Russian threat?
In the third 2012 debate, GOP nominee Mitt Romney warned that President Obama would shrink the Navy. Obama quipped, "We also have fewer horses and bayonets." Many believe that Obama won the election right then and there.

It's comforting to believe, as Obama taunted, that "the 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back because, you know, the Cold War's been over for 20 years."

By all signs, it's coming back in less than five years.
